Born in Amsterdam Holland, Paul Nauta moved to the United States in 1979.

After receiving his Diplomas from the Royal Conservatory of music in The Hague, where Nauta studied with world renowned artists such as Barthold Kuijken, Alan Curtis, Sigiswald Kuijken, Lucy van Deal and others, he was invited to Denmark to lead a class for Blockflute, Baroqueflute and ensembles at the Odense Conservatory of Music.

His stay in Denmark, sponsored by the Danish Governement was highly successful. One of Nauta's gifted students, Dan Laurin received the highest award ever given to a blockflute Player in Scandinavia

Paul with his Dutch baroque ensemble"Le Nuove Musiche" won a prize at the international competition for woodwind ensembles in Brugge, Belgium in 1975. Mr Nauta performed throughout Europe and the U.S., including performances on European radio and TV stations in France, Belgium, Holland, Luxemburg and Monaco. Also American TV and Radio. he has made recordings for the Highlight label as solosit as well as with his baroque ensemble "Go Baroque".

Paul Nauta performs and records regularly with outstanding artists such as baroque flutist Jan De Winne (member of the Orchestre des Champs Elysées "Herreweghe"), baroque cellist Christina Mahler (principal cellist Tafelmusik Orchestra), international harsichordist Shalev Ad-El, and also with blockflutist Koen Dieltiens.

Besides teaching at the Conservatory of Odense in Denmark, Paul Nauta alsotaught at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music after his move to the U.S. Nauta was one of the first Blockflute artists of the Dutch-Flemish-Austrian school (whose most important representatives are : Leonhardt, Bruggen, the Kuijkens and Harnoncourt) to make his permanent home in America.

Paul Nauta performs on original or precise replica's of 17th and 18th century flutes including the Blockflute (commonly known as the recorder) as well as the baroqueflute.
